We do everything we can to protect and preserve your precious teeth so, if the inner part of your tooth becomes infected, we can treat it with root canal therapy to prevent it from being extracted.
The inside of the tooth is known as the ‘pulp’ and this can become prone to infection if damaged by decay, a deep filling or trauma. Root canal therapy involves removing the infected pulp, flushing clean and shaping the canals, and then sealing these to prevent further infection. Finally, a permanent filling, or possibly a crown, will be expertly placed to restore the tooth and keep it well-guarded against more damage.
If you do need root canal therapy, you will usually have to attend a few appointments so we can ensure all infection has been eliminated and the affected tooth can be protected against further problems. You may be concerned that this kind of treatment will be painful, after all it has a reputation for being so, but in reality the procedure is no more uncomfortable than having a normal filling.
